Ian asked:

I’ve been wanting to start a vegetable garden for a while now, and I’ve decided to finally do it this year, due to the economy. My question is, where do I start? I’ve been researching it, and it seems really complicated. The extent of my experience of working in a garden is putting out grass seed. Any tips or links would be appreciated.

EDIT: I live near Dallas, Texas.

About 6 weeks ago, I planted a vegetable garden - my very first one!

I just got up close to the soil to pick some weeds and I noticed little black aunts all over the soil. I assume this is a problem and they will eat the vegetables, right?

What do I do about it? I was so heartbroken since I was so excited about my first garden. Will these little guys ruin my garden?

I’ve been planning on having a vegetable garden this summer I had one last year and it turned out ok except for some veggies. I need some advice from someone who has had a veggie garden for a number of years, or even just a casual gardener. And what veggies or fruits are good for your health in that they fight off disease?
10 points for anyone that can give a good educated answer

Just wondering what the advantages/disadvantages would be for each case. I work in a restaurant and can get 100’s of seeds like tomatoes, pepper, eggplant, etc.. for free every day. I want to plant some at home to start my vegetable garden, will they work ok? Or will pre-packaged seeds grow better due to some coating or treatments?

I am doing a vegetable garden for the first time. We rented a rotatiler, then added peat moss. I then planted seeds and tomato seedlings. I have been watering every morning, now I feel like it is too much. The cucumbers have not grown anymore since they popped out of the ground. The green beans lower leaves have turned yellow. I do see some tomatoes and yellow flowers. Any words of wisdom??? Thank you in advance.

I was given a plot layout years ago for a vegetable garden but of course I’ve missed placed it. I remember being told that you can’t plant potatoes and onions together. Now I’m worried that I’m going to fail before I even really begin.
