roger asked:

Recent data from the USDA shows vegetable gardening at an all time historical low in the US, down 15% from 2004 to 2005.
(Anyone who thinks that it would be a good thing to have more food gardens in this world is invited to join some like-minded folks at ww.kitchengardeners.org . Thanks.)

i live in the dallas/fort worth area of texas. when should i start preparing for the garden. for instance, when should i turn all the soil, mix in the compost, plant the seeds in there own little things to get them started? what are the easier vegetables and fruits that a begginer could start with? any advice and tips would be much appreciated. thanks.
and i’ve got an acre in the back and a lot of time on my hands so the garden is gonna be fairly large.

Is there a way to prevent Bermuda grass from growing in our vegetable, and flower gardens?

peter_pumkin asked:

In Southeast Colorado the easiest grass to maintain is Bermuda, however this creates a problem because the Bermuda grass creeps like a ground covering weed. It’s great if you’re trying to build a yard with no stickers, not so great if you have an area that you want to be grass free.

Lauren CA asked:

We just bought our first house and I’m looking to start a small vegetable garden. Do I need to call the electric or gas company before I start digging? It’s only going to be a foot or so down that I’ll be digging. Just enough to turn the soil so I can plant in it.
